5 ways to reuse old tyres

The life of a tyre doesn’t have to end after it’s time on the road is over – in fact, there are various things you can do with your old tyres. In this blog, we will be discussing the weird and wonderful ways in which you can make those old tyres brand new again.
Old tyre disposal
Traditionally, old tyres would be taken to a garage to be recycled – the rubber would be broken down and reused for new materials, or the tyres could be used to create energy for manufacturing processes.
Some garages would choose to turn the tyres into ‘crumb rubber’ – this material could be then used for carpet underlay, playground flooring and speed bumps. These are all effective ways to recycle your old tyres – however, there are more fun ways to recycle your tyres.
How to recycle old tyres
1. Dog beds
One of the easiest ways to recycle an old tyre is to turn it into a fun bed for your dog – all you have to do is chuck in a few pillows and blankets in the centre of a tyre to create a cosy warm bed.
2. Garden chairs
With summer just around the corner, there is no way you can have enough garden furniture! Good news – did you know tyres could also be turned into comfy garden chairs? Add a splash of paint to your tyres and put a large plush cushion in the centre of your tyre to create a fantastic garden chair.
3. Garden table
On the topic of garden furniture, another good idea is creating a brand-new garden table out of your old tyres. All you have to do is:
- Stack 2-3 tyres on top of one another and secure with industrial superglue
- Paint these tyres in your preferred colour
- Place your desired table-top on top -this could be a glass or wooden panel
4. Hanging tyre planter
Tyres not only make garden furniture, but they can also double up as tools for your actual garden. A tyre planter is a great way to display your flowers and plants. By attaching a tyre to the wall, you can fill the sidewalls with compost and flowers. Et voila! You have before you a cool decorative garden piece.
5. Tyre swing
This is perhaps one of the most common ways to reuse your old tyre – and all you need is a rope and a tree to complete the process!
